Is a Cashback Business Credit Card Worth It?

By Merchant Insight Editorial TeamLast updated

A cashback card is worth it if two things are true: you already spend regularly on business costs, and you pay the balance off in full each month.

    The quick maths

At a flat 1% cashback, £5,000 of monthly spend earns about £600 a year. At £15,000 a month it's about £1,800. If you carry a balance, interest will usually wipe that out quickly.

    Flat rate vs intro rate

Capital on Tap pays a flat 1% with no cap. Funding Circle's cashback card offers a higher introductory rate that is capped. Higher spenders often do better with uncapped flat cashback; lower spenders may prefer a boosted intro. Full breakdown in our Capital on Tap vs Funding Circle comparison.

    When it's not worth it

    • You expect to carry a balance for months.
    • Your spend is mostly via direct debit or bank transfer that can't go on a card.
    • The card has an annual fee bigger than your likely cashback.
